Matayoshi & Chinen

Okinawa Kobudo is a style of the weapons fighting developed by the Matayoshis Family. It was created in XIX century by Shinchin Matayoshi and developed later by Shingi, Shintoku and Shinko. Shinko Matayoshi’s son, Shinpo, was a renowned master of Okinawa Kobudo. In 1970 master Shinpo Matayoshi formed the Ryukyu Kobudo Federation, but two year later, he changed the name into the All Okinawa Kobudo Federation. However, it is known on Okinawa and all over the world as “Matayoshi Kobudo”. All Okinawa Kobudo Federation ceased to function with the death of master Shinpo Matayoshi in 1997. The most famous student of master Matayoshi, who is teaching his style around the world is master Kenyu Chinen. He is called “Matayoshi’s student Number 1”. His organization the World Oshukai Dento Okinawa Kobudo has its own dojos on the five continents. The major weapons used in Okinawa Kobudo include: Bo, Sai, Tonkuwa, Nunchaku, Jo, Sansetsukon, Nunti, Eku, Kama, Kue, Timbe, Suruchin, Tetcho and Tekko.
